American Art Therapy Association 2024 Virtual Conference
This training explores specific accommodations and adaptations for including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the arts, presents information on developing lessons using Differentiated Instruction that is specific to the visual arts, and provides tips for assessing the performance of students with disabilities in the arts. After the presentation section of the webinar, teachers will put what they learned into action in a hands-on art activity. Supplies needed for the hands-on part will be emailed to you with your registration confirmation.
Presenters:
Jennifer Sabo is the Executive Director of Arts4All Florida and provides leadership and management to Arts4All Florida’s statewide arts organization, supervising all functions related to administration, fundraising, and programming. Prior to arriving at Arts4All Florida, Ms. Sabo served as Executive Director at the Children’s Museum of Alamance County, Director of Education at the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, and Youth Programs Manager at the Ringling Museum of Art. Ms. Sabo serves as a member of the Parent Involvement and Engagement Strategic Planning Committee for the Florida Department of Education- Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services and as a panel reviewer for a variety of grants. Ms. Sabo has a Master of Arts in Museum Studies with a concentration in Education from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Lidice Cohen is a registered art therapist with both the American Art Therapy Association and the Canadian Art Therapy Association. She holds a Master's in Professional Studies in Art Therapy and is currently a PhD candidate in Expressive Therapies. Lidice has been a teaching artist with Arts4All Florida for over 10 years. Throughout her tenure, she has worked extensively with youth in the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, which inspired her to become a certified clinical trauma specialist to better serve these young individuals. She has also conducted several webinars, sharing her experiences and techniques with colleagues and teachers for working with students of all abilities. She currently teaches Arts4All Florida’s very popular “Drawing and Art Therapy” community art class for students on the autism spectrum, ages 5-11.
